No really, it's freakin beautiful...You should care
So we noticed from the depressingly low number of comments that my loyal sister Jaime seems to be the only person out there that cares about this blog anymore. Don´t get me wrong, I'm not bitter. It's natural that after a while sardonic musings about travels completely detached from reality would get rather boring. So as a result Rachel and I have decided to be lazy, post a few phots, and give all of our amazing handmade souvenirs to Jaime when we return.
Okay, since it's prolly necessary to offer an explanation of this I will break my self-imposed silence, but just this once. So in Guatemala they make these amazing moral lesson paintings aimed at scaring the masses into good submissive catholicism. Just remember, if you stray for a moment or become lazy with your faith, a gigantic snake or a wild-eyed knife-toting criminal will enter your home and put you to death. Beware!
Also of note is the Guatemalan idolization of Saints. Here a sculpture masterfully recounts the events of Saint Joe the Angry, after he mashed his head open with a golf putter. Stirring, isn't it?

Hey guys,
Wa ta mala looks soo cool!! How is the Spanish coming? I think learning the language will add so much to your experience. I wanna do the language school thing too. The volcanic areas look pretty damn amazing. How's the fire water? Better than the finest tequilla, I bet. I hope you guys are starting a colletion of each regional drink of choice. I think Matt wants you to bring him some of his favorite Mexican drink. Alright guys take care and can't wait to hear more.
Just keep trucking on.....
Jay and Janelle
P.S. guilt is a powerful motivator.
Does this mean the crisis is over?
I check this blog everyday. Don't think that your words and pics don't go unnoticed. I love them. Those hills are beautiful. You guys are so lucky.
Peace
jima
Just so you know, you aren't forgotten--I check your blog almost daily. Sometimes your blogs are so cerebral and witty they just take my words away. When I hear you are stuck at the border and paying everyone in sight just to get in the country, I lose my words! When I see that you went on a boat to some far away place, all my protective mother instincts surface and I just do my best to keep quiet. Silence is my way of saying I'm overwhelmed in some way by what I'm reading!
Pictures are easy to understand! Especially pictures of you and Rachel. Then we see you are fine. That makes us smile and gives us lots of words! We are so happy for you are well and love to say it!
Much love, MOM
i've been using the gmail route to communicate with rach, as of late. but I would consider myself a frequenter of your blog and a somewhat regular commenter. i will make more of an effort. really, i think the jealously holds me back ;) you guys are two very lucky ducks! keep waddling your way down to panama and keep sharing your journey - it does not go unnoticed in the least.
love, kenz
Way to piss off everyone who regularly reads the blog and posts quite frequently -- LIKE MYSELF. Um, but way to be manipulative enough to provoke posts out of your loyal blog readers.
I think the militant/moral paintings paint chipped off in your mouth and you're punishing the sinners.
Why don't you just rename this the Blog Bible. And then you can rename yourself God.
Blasphemy.
See People do care. I have checked your blog since your stop in Columbus, and look forward to seeing where you guys are next. Please be carful and I'm still jealous. Wade P.S. you should get a dog to keep you safe. Maybe A GSD!!!
Rachel - I got a sewing machine and am steadily learning to use it. Elwood wants to meet you and hopes you find a tiny sombrero for him on your travels. Or some daring catnip-payote, meow. I, also, check this blog every day almost, i bet you'd be supprised if you could track how much traffic it gets. I have some pictures on my myspace blog if you miss LA and your Tiny: http://myspace.com/bonefolder
Miss you both!

I've decided to cancel my trip to Costa Rica so i can instead stay home and read about it on your blog. I love your witty banter that much.

I have decided to post that picture of Rachel and the kitten on cuteoverload.com
